The DOH said 2,921 more people contracted COVID-19, bringing the country’s tally to 574,247. This was the highest single-day jump in new coronavirus cases for this year so far.

The number of active cases stands at 37,093 or 6.5 percent of the country’s total number of confirmed cases.

It was also noted that the death toll hit 12,289 with 42 more fatalities reported.

Meanwhile, 293 more individuals have recovered, which brought the total to 524,865.

Strictly comply with the health protocols

The DOH once again reminded the public to observe the minimum health standards amid the increasing number of new COVID-19 cases.

We observed that there has been a slight increase in cases these past days in selected areas of the country),” said DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire during the “Laging Handa” press briefing on Saturday, Feb. 27.

“May iba't ibang factors that might have caused the increasing number of cases. There are various factors that might have caused the increasing number of cases. First, our easing of restrictions and we see that some are not complying with the minimum public health standards ),” she added.

Vergeire also urged the local government units to further strengthen the implementation of measures against COVID-19.

We just need to intensify our response, especially our quarantine and isolation protocols),” she said.
