TACLOBAN CITY – A total of 14,778 or 95.81 percent of patients infected with COVID-19 have recovered in Eastern Visayas, the Department of Health (DOH Region 8) reported Friday.

(MANILA BULLETIN)

The recovery rate is higher than the national rate at 92.3 percent.

DOH Region 8 has reported 63 fresh COVID-19 cases and two deaths. They are Patient EV-14894, a 72-year-old male from Tacloban City, and Patient EV-15264, a 68-year-old male from San Roque, Northern Samar.

They died Thursday, bringing the total fatalities in Region 8 to 221 or 1.43 percent.

The region now has 15,425 cases with a 6.62 positivity rate compared to the 6.1 percent overall rate. Of these, only 2.77 percent or 427 are active.

A Regional Vaccination Plan and Regional Vaccination Operations Center (RVOC) were recently established to help combat the disease.

The RVOC will be an expanded facility to the existing Regional Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for COVID-19.

Last week, a Functional Exercise (FX) was conducted by DOH Region 8, in partnership with the Regional Task Force (RTF-8) for COVID-19 and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD-8).

The FX covers the processes, protocols, and systems to be implemented from the arrival to the distribution of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines to local vaccination operations centers and hospitals.

About 2,000 doses of vaccines are expected to be transported in the region by March.
