Only P200: Dad makes swing and slide for toddler son

With the lockdown in place and children not encouraged to leave the house, parents are forced to think of way to keep their young children preoccupied and active at home.

Roylo and Althea Reyes wanted to buy a slide and swing set for their 21-month-old toddler Aden, but they realized that they could make something on their own. "Mas okay po kung DIY siya. Yun effort mo para sa anak mo na gagawin mo lahat para sa kanya (It's better to DIY. The effort you make for your son... you will do anything for them)," Althea tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle.

Her husband is fond of DIY, and he will try his best to make out of things he could reuse. With just a wooden palette from his workplace and rope, Roylo was able to build his son's dream playground set. It took him only one day to build it—and they only spent P200!

"Super excited siya na may slide din ginawa (He was so excited to see the slide that his dad made for him). He was happy and yun smile niya, hindi ko ma-explain (He was happy and his smile... I couldn't explain it). He keeps saying 'wow,' because marunong na siya mag appreciate (he knows how to appreciate)," Althea says of their son who is now enjoying the play set at home.
