Aljon Salonga, one of the top performers of the Philippine Water Polo Team during the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games here, suffered a dislocated right elbow after he figured in a motorcycle accident Tuesday.

Salonga was alone when the accident happened in Las Pinas City, and he was immediately brought to the hospital for treatment. He had surgery to repair his elbow last Wednesday.

Charlie Dy, the CEO of Virtual Playground where Salonga is a talent, said that the water polo star is recovering well after the surgery.

“He is doing well after the operation. Aside from the dislocated elbow, he also suffered a cut on his left leg but both injuries were not serious and he is fine right now,” said Dy.

Salonga played an important role for the water polo national team which won a silver medal during the 2019 SEA Games here – the first podium finish for the country in 10 years.

Dale Evangelista, a former national team member and now with the coaching staff of water polo, offered prayers for Salonga’s recovery in a Facebook post.

“We will get through this Aljon Salonga….. Prayer for ur fast recovery!”

In an interview, Evangelista said it was a good thing that it was not serious.

“He informed the team of what happened through coach Rey Galang, and we are grateful that it wasn’t a serious injury. We at the water polo national team - teammates and coaches - we are all praying for his fast recovery,” he said.
