“Run Sara Run’ tarps invade Cebu City; City architect says streamers have no permits

CEBU CITY—Tarpaulins believed to push Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte to run for President in the 2022 elections have sprouted like mushrooms in various areas here.

Tarpaulins bearing printed words “Run Sara Run” were found installed on at least three skywalks on General Maxilom Avenue, Osmeña Boulevard and Imus Road.

The tarpaulins also bore “Friends of Sara Cebu” which is believed be the group behind the installing of the materials.

The streamers started sprouting last Monday.

While the tarpaulins did not have the full name of the Davao City mayor, there had been people in other areas that openly urged the Presidential daughter to run for president next year by distributing calendars captioned “Run Sara Run.”

While these tarpaulins have been catching attention, their presence in the city’s major thoroughfares may not last long.

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has ordered the Office of the City Building Official (OBO) to check if the installation of the tarpaulins had the needed permits.

Architect Florante Catalan, chief of OBO, said the office did not receive any application to permit the putting up of the tarpaulins.

“No applications whatsoever for the Run Sara Run (tarpaulins),” said Catalan.

Catalan said the city’s Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification and Enhancement (PROBE) will be removing the streamers which were considered illegal for lack of permits.
