Korean actor and singer Kim Myung-soo, also known as L of boy band Infinite, has enlisted in the Korea Marine Corps.

The 28-year-old entered the camp on Feb. 22 to undergo five weeks of basic military training. His agency said the star will serve in the active duty after the training.

“I will work hard and show you a good image in August of next year, so I hope you will be healthy until then,” said Kim Myung-soo in a video released on Feb. 21.

He was one of the 1,267 recruits who enlisted on Feb. 22, according to an Instagram post by the Korea Marine Corps.

His enlistment came after starring in the drama “Royal Secret Agent,” which ended its run on Feb. 9 with the highest rating for the series of 14 percent to place third overall among terrestrial TV shows, according to Nielsen Korea.

Kim Myung-soo applied for voluntary enlistment in the Marine Corps last year before he started filming “Royal Secret Agent” and was accepted.

Before his enlistment, he released his solo debut single “Memory” on Feb. 3 and held an online fan meeting on Feb. 20.

Kim Myung-soo debuted as a member of Infinite in 2010 and ventured into acting. Among his drama credits are “Flower Band,” “Master’s Sun,” “Cunning Single Lady,” “One More Time,” “The Emperor: Owner of the Mask” and “Meow, the Secret Boy.”

He recently talked about starring in “Royal Secret Agent.” He said he was attracted to the role because of “the thrill of eradicating society’s corrupt forces and the resurrection of a hero familiar to both men and women since childhood, the vivid character of the royal secret agent, the meaningful storyline, and the pleasant atmosphere are the attractions.”

To prepare for his role, he said, “I went to action school and the gym almost every day. I practiced all types of moves and various weapons, and trained the strength I needed in the gym.”

Kim Myung-soo will be discharged from the Marine Corps in August 2022.
