In a statement, the City Public Information Office (PIO) said the infant may have been infected through her COVID-positive 23-year-old mother who breastfeeds her.

Nurse Mark Anthony Ejercito Castillo of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said that mother-daughter will be brought to the Mall of Asia Quarantine Facility.

Castillo was the first to respond when it was found that the four-year-old tested positive.

The two will also be put near the nurse station to get proper care and attention. Castillo said that the infant may have acquired the virus since she has not yet fully developed her antibodies to fight it.

“Nanawagan po kami sa ating mga magulang na sana ay doblehin ang pag-iingat upang di malagay sa panganib ang buhay ng ating mga anak (We are urging parents to be extra careful so that you don't put your children's lives in danger),” said Castillo.
