OFW in Saudi fired for wearing company uniform while dancing
An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Saudi Arabia was fired after performing Tiktok while wearing the uniform of the company that she was working for.
In a report from GMA News, the OFW, named "JM," went to the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLOs) in Jeddah to seek assistance after she was fired.
The OFW said that her video was not obscene or disgraceful but admitted that it was wrong to "TikTok" while wearing her company uniform.
JM was summoned by her agency to the office and ordered her to remove the video she uploaded online.
She was also prevented from going to the office. She learned that she had been fired on Thursday.
"Monday po mga before 10 or 9 a.m. ay nakaabot po agad sa office . Tinawagan po ako nung manager ko na burahin ko yung Tiktok ko na sayaw pagkatapos po pumunta po yung investigator sa store tapos hindi na ako nakapasok. Itong Thursday ay nalaman ko na terminated na ako (Monday before 10 or 9 a.m. the Tiktok video apprarently made its way to our office. My manager called me and told me to delete my Tiktok dance video. Then the investigator went to the store and I was told not to report for work. This Thursday, I found out that I was terminated)," he said.
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Welfare Officer James Mendiola reminded OFWs, especially those in Saudi Arabia, to be careful when posting on social media.
"We would like to remind our OFWs in Saudi Arabia that although we work only during working hours we are part of their company 24 hours a day, seven days a week," he said.
"And most of our employers, if not all, are very sensitive to impression or public images and that includes us. So our social media post and uploads must agree or be in line with the norms of the kingdom," the official added.
