Beijing-based streaming platform iQIYI has apologized concerning the controversial slur on Filipino maids as uttered by a character in “Make My Heart Smile,” one of the many drama series it is carrying.
“It has come to our attention that there is an offending scene in the show ‘Make my Heart Smile.’ This is not OK and we have edited the scene out. We are sorry,” it tweeted.
iQIYI have since decided to pull the program from its library.
“Make My Heart Smile” debuted on Feb. 6.
It immediately garnered notice from many Pinoys, with a character denigrating another saying she looks “like a Filipino maid.”
Some thought it "inappropriate," while others deemed it an "insult."
