"Gusto ko pong ipaalala sa inyo ang nagsponsor ng cityhood natin sa Congress, walang iba, our late Congressman Roilo Golez (I just want to remind all of you that the one who sponsored the bill for our cityhood in Congress was none other than the late Congressman Roilo Golez)," Olivarez said.

He made the remark during the blessing and launching of the newly-renovated Pamilihang Bayan ng Bagong Parañaque.

"Siya po ang nagdeliver sa kongreso, pinagtanggol sa senado, para mainconvert po ang ating munisipyo, para po maging isang siyudad po siya (He's the one who delivered it to congress, defended it in senate, to convert our then municipality into a city)," he added.

The mayor stressed how important and "very special" the day was because it is Parañaque's 23rd cityhood anniversary. There, he also thanked his Vice Mayor, Rico Golez and expressed his sincere gratitude towards the elder Golez.

"Kung ano po ang meron dito sa kasalukuyan dahil sa batas na ginawa ng late Congressman Roilo Golez (Whatever it is that we have here now is because of the law that was crafted by the late Congressman Roilo Golez)," Olivarez said.

The veteran legislator and former National Security Adviser died on June 11, 2018.

Parañaque became a city through Republic Act No. 8507 or An Act Converting the Municipality of Parañaque into a Highly-Urbanized City to be Known as the City of Parañaque.
