The family of an 83-year-old Philadelphia-based Filipino who died after being brutally beaten on New Year's Eve has offered more than $30,000 in reward money for information on the assailants.
Mauricio Gesmundo, 83, was sent to the intensive care unit after he was attacked and robbed on New Year’s Eve inside his home on Fairhill and Pike Streets in Philadelphia. He succumbed to his injuries on Jan. 18.
Gesmundo was found bound with duct tape, beaten, and lying on the dining room at 3 a.m.
"Our goal was to just let people know that we're not stopping, we're not backing out of this fight. For justice, for Dad," his son, Geo Gesmundo, said in an interview on Balitang Amerika.
Police said he was alone when at least one unidentified assailant entered his home on Fairhill Street, beat him up and left him for dead. The motive was believed to be robbery. A safe containing documents and a large amount of cash were taken.
Gesmundo's family is asking anyone with information about the attack to come forward and contact the Philadelphia Police Tip Line at 215-686-TIPS or 8477.
