Widening works were implemented on Canawan Bridge along Sindangan-Liloy Road in Barangay Canawan in Salug town, Villar said.

The now four-lane bridge is expected to ease congestion and improve the delivery of goods and services for the locals in the area.

The widening of the 40.33-meter bridge was implemented under a P43.21-million budget allocation under the 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

Aside from the widening works, the bridge project also involved the construction of a slope protection to avoid or minimize erosion or soil disturbance.

Twelve solar-powered lamp posts were also installed on the sides of the bridge to improve motorists’ safety at night time.

Villar said it is the “first bridge in the 3rd Legislative District of Zamboanga del Norte with the best illumination.”

“Now, the widened and well-lighted Canawan Bridge provides safer roads and better travel experience, accommodating an increasing number of motorists from eastern side of Zamboanga del Norte and western side of Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga City,” the secretary added.
