The five seized vehicles were part of the 13 luxury cars that were destroyed in a nationwide simultaneous activity as part of the 119th founding anniversary of the BOC.

Marc Anthony Patriarca, OIC district collector of BOC-Port of Cebu, said the five luxury cars were worth P23 million.

The destruction of the vehicles was in accordance of President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive, said Patriarca.

“We are following the directive of the President because we don’t want these smuggled vehicles to be recycled,” Patriarca said.

One of the vehicles was brand new while the four others were second-hand.

The vehicles arrived in the country from Japan via two separate shipments last January 2020.

The shipments were declared as personal effects and car accessories.

Through the routine inspection using its X-ray machines, the BOC found out that the shipments were actually luxury cars.
