1,000 new jobs as BPO company to open in Iloilo City

Despite the pandemic, at least a thousand new jobs will be available as a new
new business process outsourcing (BPO) company is set to open in Iloilo City.

Mayor Jerry Treñas confirmed this after Telus International Philippines Inc. is scheduled to open in Mandurriao district this coming March.

For the mayor, the entry of Telus is timely to help jumpstart the local economy that has also been affected by lockdowns and other restrictions due to the pandemic.

“Many of our residents had lost their jobs due to the pandemic. We are very happy to see that a lot of industries expressed their interest in investing in the city. This will help cope with the effects of the decline of the economy,” said Treñas in a statement.

Telus’ Iloilo will be the first branch outside of Metro Manila. It also has BPO offices in Makati City, Quezon City and Pasig City.  It has two branches in Taguig City.

Treñas also recently met with executives of Transcom Philipipnes, one of the BPO companies that first opened in the city.

Mark Lyndsell, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Transcom, presented the company’s updated health protocols.
