Mentally ill man pummels father to death with serving bowl in Pangasinan

ALCALA, Pangasinan – A 32-year-old man allegedly suffering from mental illness pummeled his father to death with a serving bowl while eating dinner inside their house in Barangay San Pedro II here last Saturday.

Police identified the victim as Joselito Fabros, 67, a painter.

Investigation showed that Joselito and the suspect Jeffrey were having dinner inside their house at around 9:15 p.m. when a heated argument ensued.

At the peak of their altercation, Jeffrey grabbed and repeatedly hit his father with a serving bowl in the head.

The victim’s mother, Elma, managed to pacify her son.

The elder Fabros was taken to the Urdaneta Emergency Hospital in Urdaneta City, this province, where he was declared dead.

Police said the family of the victim and their neighbors observed that the suspect has been suffering from depression.

Jeffery was taken to the Alcala Police Station and will be brought to a mental hospital, according to case investigator Police Master Sgt. Glenmore Prado.
