On Friday, former players from the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), businessmen, and lawyers convened the Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to run for president movement, the latest group to throw its support to the mayor.

In a press conference in Pasay City, the group, which called itself  the "Alyansa ni Inday Movement,” said that they believe that the mayor can lead the country.

The group launched its campaign called "Run, Inday, Run.” Former PBA stars Paul Alvarez, Jerry Codiñera, E.J. Feihl, and Mark Andaya attended the event.

The group is headed by its president, Dr. Alvin Sahagun and its spokesperson Atty. Glynis Cabansag who is a Junior Partner at Carpio & Bello Law Offices.

"The movement sees no one but Mayor Sara can run the country and to carry on his father's program for the Filipino people such as the Anti-corruption, Anti-Illegal Drugs, the Build, Build, Build Program, Anti-Poverty Programs, and Livelihood programs," they said.

Duterte recently thanked those behind the "Run, Sara, Run" campaign who posted photos and videos on social media of motorcades in different towns of Ilocos province. Even calendars with the words “Run, Sara, Run for President for 2022” were said to be circulating in Quezon City.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Mayor Sara said that she understands "where they are coming from. I too am anxious where we are going as a nation. I am always grateful that I have their trust and confidence.”

She added that if she were to run for President, it would be in 2034. She has also warned the public not to patronize fundraising campaigns to fund her alleged candidacy in 2022.
