At least 24 health workers have been infected by coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Iloilo province.
Foremost, there are 17 health workers infected at the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan town, the main hospital run by the Iloilo provincial government. A doctor doctor, 13 nurses, two nurse attendants, and one utility worker tested positive for COVID-19.
The management of the Iloilo Provincial Hospital also temporarily shutdown the services for surgery and orthopedic departments.
Another seven health workers working for the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Miag-ao town in southern Iloilo province also tested positive for COVID-19.
Miag-ao Mayor Macario Napulan told Manila Bulletin that the seven workers who tested positive for COVID-19 resulted into partial lockdown of the RHU for disinfection purposes.
“Only portion of the RHU was locked down. Our other vital services are still functioning,” assured Napulan, who himself is a medical doctor by profession.
Napulan said all seven health workers who are infected with COVID-19 are asymptomatic.
As of February 4, there are 108 cases of COVID-19 recorded in Miag-ao.
