“Two simultaneous works are ongoing to have alternative routes for travelers in these two provinces,” said DPWH Western Visayas Assistant Regional Director Al Fruto in an interview with the Manila Bulletin Friday.

Fruto said the first, a 41-kilometer road linking Lambunao in Iloilo and Valderrama in Antique, is halfway complete. “The construction is for the remaining 20 kilometers,” Fruto said.

The second is a six-kilometer road that will connect Tubungan in Iloilo to San Remigio in Antique.

These will enable travelers get to their destinations faster as they would pass by the boundary town of San Joaquin in Iloilo. These are also two of the many undertaken by DPWH Region 6 for the next three years.

Other alternate routes between Iloilo and Antique are also being studied but they are facing challenges from the terrain. “There are feasibility studies, but we might have to revise or amend construction strategies,” Fruto said.
