More than 1,400 cars, motorcycles impounded as HPG steps up operations for road safety


At least 1,455 vehicles and motorcycles were impounded when the police’s Highway Patrol Group (HPG) stepped up the operation to enforce traffic and road safety laws across the country on Wednesday.

HPG director Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum said the nationwide operation was actually the ninth simultaneous "Lambat Bitag Sasakyan- One Time Big TIme Operations’ where thousands of vehicles and motorcycles were also impounded.

Tagum said the same operation on Wednesday also resulted in the issuance of citation tickets to a total of 2,706 motorists and motorcycle riders for various violations that include fake license, heavily tinted cars, improper display of plates and violation of seatbelt law.

Three of the vehicles impounded turned out to be carnapped vehicles while 56 of them were vehicles being illegally used for public transportation.

Tagum said his men also confiscated a total of 471 illegal equipment such as siren, horn, LED lamp, strobe light, fog light, blinker and modified muffler.

On the other hand, a total of 1,164 motorists were apprehended without helmet and 64 motorists for using sub-standard helmet without ICC (Import Commodity Clearance) sticker.
