Mayor Vico announces salary increase of Pasig healthcare ‘volunteers’

The local government unit (LGU) of Pasig City has more than doubled the salary of over 300 Pasig Health Aides (PHA), who have been under “volunteer status” for decades, from a monthly salary of P5,000 to over P12,000.

Mayor Vico Sotto said the 314 healthcare workers of the city or PHAs have very important duties in their respective communities.

He said the LGU has employed the volunteer healthcare workers as “job order employees.”

“Marami sa kanila ay deka-dekada nang ‘volunteer status’ pero ang totoo, mabigat ang katungkulan nila (Most of them have been under ‘volunteer status’ but truth is, they have big responsibilities),” the mayor said in a tweet on Tuesday (February 2).

“I am happy to announce their salary increase!”

Believing in the salient role of health centers and their personnel, Sotto said it is vital to fortify the primary health care system in order to have a Universal Healthcare wherein quality medical services are provided to citizens.

“Health centers and their personnel are key to achieve UHC,” he said in Filipino.

Last year, Sotto has regularized 100 LGU employees, including street sweepers and engineering aides, who have served the city as “contractual employees” for over two decades.
