The Louvre and Uniqlo fashion line is coming to the Philippines

Get ready to include the ‘Mona Lisa’ to your OOTD

Apart from its online tours and exhibitions, the Musée du Louvre in France is bringing art and culture closer to our home, specifically to our closets, with its fashion line with Uniqlo. The Japanese retail giant announced that the collaboration collection will be available in the Philippines soon. 

Dubbed as “Art and Logic,” the collection features the works of British graphic designer Peter Saville. Best Known for his record cover design in the ‘80s, Saville reimagines the museums treasured masterpieces such as the “Mona Lisa,” “Venus de Milo,” and “Nike of Samothrace” in Uniqlo’s UT pieces, aiming to integrate the joy of art in daily life.

According to the museum, the story behind the collection explores the inventory museum system it uses to catalogue artworks. The system includes inventory numbers that are essential in safe-keeping and the identification of artworks and the institution’s acquisition policy.

“I was inspired to discover that the world’s most famous work of art, the ‘Mona Lisa,’ is known at the Louvre simply as Painting No. 779,” Saville says. “This is my theme for the ‘Art and Logic’ collection.”

The partnership between the Louvre and Uniqlo lasts until 2024. It also includes support of the new tour format called “Mini-Discovery Tours,” which was launched in July 2020, and other special events to be organized every month to allow first-time and returning visitors to further enjoy the museum’s offerings.
