In a taped message during the recent 70th anniversary celebration of the DSWD, the President recognized the dedication and hard work of social welfare employees in addressing poverty and hunger in the country and urged them to sustain such endeavor.

"For seven decades, the DSWD has been in the forefront of efforts in looking after the welfare of our people especially the marginalized and most in need. Your unyielding commitment to various social development programs that help alleviate poverty, hunger, and inequality especially during this pandemic is truly noteworthy," he said.

Duterte said he appreciates the hard work of DSWD in promoting inclusive growth in localities as well as leading the Filipino families and communities towards their "greater productivity and further empowerment."

"May this occasion further inspire you to offer selfless service to the nation as we continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic," he added.

The DSWD celebrated its 70th anniversary last Jan. 29 with the theme “DSWD@70: Kabalikat ng Mahihirap sa Panahon ng Pandemya.”

The anniversary rites included the awarding of DSWD employees for service excellence.

In reaching the milestone, the DSWD has committed to further strengthen the delivery of prompt and compassionate service to the poor and vulnerable sectors.

Among the programs seeking to improve the welfare of Filipinos are the Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (CIDSS), Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR), Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP); Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens (SocPen) Program, Bangsamoro Umpungan sa Nutrisyon (BangUN), Lingap at Gabay Para sa May Sakit (LinGap sa Masa), and Yakap Bayan Program.
