The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will close to vehicular traffic the J. Fajardo Bridge in Manila City to give way to its seven-month reconstruction, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said in a statement Saturday morning.
The MMDA said the closure will take effect on Monday, February 1, but mobilization of construction equipment will begin Saturday night and occupy one lane of the bridge.
The DPWH will start the demolition of the whole bridge on Monday, to be undertaken by its private contractor. The total replacement of the bridge will be completed by September this year, according to the DPWH’s plan.
Fajardo Bridge is located in Sampaloc, Manila near Carola Street. It measures 14 meters long and 11 meters wide.
A re-routing plan will be implemented within the duration of the project as traffic is expected to slow down as a result of it.
"Motorists are advised to take alternative routes. Vehicles heading toward
R. Magsaysay may use Vicente Cruz and D. Tuazon. Vehicles heading toward
A. H. Lacson Avenue will be rerouted via Espana Boulevard," the MMDA said.
