Kim So-hyun, Ji Soo to star in new Viu Original K-drama ‘River Where the Moon Rises’

Korean actress Kim So-hyun and actor Ji Soo will be headlining a new Korean Viu Original drama that will premiere next month. 

The period romance drama titled “River Where the Moon Rises” will premiere exclusively on Viu on Feb. 15 and is adapted from a Korean folktale recorded in “The History of the Three Kingdoms” and based on Princess Pyeonggang (Kim So-hyun) and her General, On Dal (Ji Soo).

In 2019, Kim So-hyun starred in the drama “The Tale of Nokdu” opposite actor Jang Dong-yoon for which they both won acting awards at the 2019 KBS Drama Awards. 

“River Where the Moon Rises,” Pyeonggang was born as a princess but was raised as a soldier. She and her mother, the Empress, tour the kingdom and arrive at a village where they meet General On Hyeop and his son, On Dal. 

She tells On Dal her goal of becoming Goguryeo’s first queen with her intellect and confidence but he laughs at her lofty dreams. The Empress seeks the help of General On Hyeop due to schemes and conspiracies ongoing in the kingdom, but the two are assassinated in the process. The drama follows Pyeonggang’s quest to uncover dark and dangerous conspiracies in the kingdom.

Ji Soo has starred in dramas such as “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” and “When I Was the Most Beautiful.” 

“River Where the Moon Rises” is produced by South Korean production company Victory Contents. The series director is Yun Sang-ho who helmed Hallyu star Lee Young-ae’s “Saimdang, Memoir of Colors” while the writer is Han Ji-hoon who wrote the K-dramas “Temptation” and “Woman of 9.9 Billion.”

Viu viewers in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Myanmar, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan and Egypt will be able to watch “River Where the Moon Rises” exclusively on Viu on Feb. 15.
