Cop said to be an ASG backer killed in Zambo shootout


 
ZAMBOANGA CITY - A police junior officer was killed after allegedly shooting it out with authorities who were about to serve a warrant of arrest Wednesday in Barangay Mampang in this city.
 
Zamboanga Peninsula Police (PRO-9)  Director  Brig.  Gen. Ronaldo Genaro E. Ylagan identified the fatality as Staff Sgt. Jamiri Hawang Abraham  who was assigned at the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) of the  Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO).
 
Combined police and military forces was formed after authorities learned about alleged an plan of Sawadjaan to conduct atrocities in Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi or ZAMBASULTA area.
 
When the warrant was about to be served, Abraham, said to be armed with a 9MM pistol, shot it out with authorities that eventually led to his death.
 
Abraham is said to be a relative of the late Dawaa Islamya-Abu Sayyaf Group and was reportedly monitored to have been financing the DI-ASG apart from providing ammunitions and firearms. He is also a cousin ASG-Sub Leader Ben Quirino alias Ben Tatoh and slain ASG-SL Muammar Askali.
 
Abraham was formerly assigned at the Sulu Provincial Police Office from 2004 to 2018 and was also listed in the 2019 Periodic Status Report (PSR) on Financing Terrorism.   
 
Ylagan added that Abraham was also involved in kidnapping activities of the ASG where he facilitated the negotiations for the release of kidnapped victims in Sulu in exchange of ransom money.
 
Initial items recovered during the conduct of the search were one unit cal. 45 pistol; one unit cal. 9MM pistol, chamber loaded with a magazine; Improvise explosive Device (IED) components and one M16 Rifle.
