The University of the Philippines College of Communication (UP CMC) has denounced the red-tagging of its alumni.
In a statement, UP CMC said it is not the first time that the college has found itself in a hot spot.
"A College that trains future communication and media practitioners to be responsible and to report the truth will always be a threat to a government riddled with cases of corruption and incompetence," its statement read.
" College has produced multi-awarded media practitioners in print, broadcast and film as its departments are recognized by the Commission on Higher Education as Centers of Excellence. As a College, we have been a consistent partner of government agencies in various projects towards nation-building," it further read.
UP CMC also called on the Department of National Defense to desist from publishing information that tends to tarnish the reputation of persons and institutions, whose aims are aligned with the government's agenda to develop and improve the lives of every Filipino.
The statement came after the Armed Forces of the Philippines Information Exchange released on Facebook an erroneous list of UP students and alumni who allegedly became rebels.
The agency apologized on Sunday to “those who were inadvertently affected” by the false list. AFP added that it is already conducting an internal investigation as to how the list got published.
