Traveling across regions in Luzon is expected to improve with the completion of the widening works on Manila North Road Section in Cagayan.
The Department of Public Works and Highways announced Wednesday that the road widening of the 2.61-kilometer section of the Manila North Road in Sta. Praxedes, Cagayan has been completed.
The improved portion of the road serves as a direct connector road between Cagayan Valley and the Ilocos region.
Under a P65.46-million fund, the previously two-lane road has been improved into a four-lane road.
According to Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, this will allow for better inter-regional connectivity in the area.
“The road network upgraded by DPWH Cagayan 2nd District Engineering Office now helps in easing traffic congestion in the area while also providing a safer road to motorists traversing from Sta. Praxedes, Cagayan to Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte,” Villar said.
“As the national road that links the two regions geographically separated by the mountain range of Cordillera, the improved section also allows for a hastened delivery of goods and services within the nearby towns and provinces in the regions,” Villar added.
The completed road widening project is part of the “Build, Build, Build” Program and funded under the 2019 General Appropriations Act through the Network Development Program aimed to ensure a safe and reliable road system to the public.
