DOH: Wearing of 2 face masks not recommended

The Department of Health (DOH) said it is not yet recommending the wearing of two face masks as an added protection against the COVID-19 virus.

Health Assistant Secretary Maria Vergeire (Facebook)

"I think yun pong isang mask na suot natin plus the face shield is enough for us to get protected," said DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.

America's top infectious disease expert  Dr. Anthony Fauci recently made the recommendation as an added layer of protection against COVID-19.

"If you have a physical covering with one layer, you put another layer on, it just makes common sense that it likely would be more effective,” Fauci was quoted in a CNBC news report.

Vergeire said that they will look into studies whether this recommendation will be more effective in avoiding the COVID-19 virus.

“Kailangan lang po ng enough evidence so that we can also recommend this,” she said.

“But I think 'yung isang mask which guarantees us itong proteksyon ng 60 to 70 percent plus yung face shield plus the physical distance which will give you about 99 percent protection is enough for now,” she added.
