Name dropping President Duterte in government transactions could land a person in jail

The President has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to step up efforts to apprehend extortionists using his name and those of the Cabinet members to speed up dealings in government.

“I am calling on the NBI to double their time mahuli nito. Hulihin ninyo ito (to apprehend them). Kung ma-detain ninyo, bago ninyo dalhin sa korte, idaan mo nga sa Malacañang. Tingnan ko lang ang pagmumukha nito (If you can detain them, bring them to Malacañang before taking them to court. I want to see their faces),” he said during a televised address Monday.

Duterte cautioned the people against falling for these name-dropping “parasites” who offer faster transactions in exchange for money. He insisted that he and the rest of the Cabinet do not tolerate such kind of wrongdoing.

If a person already paid the extortionist money, Duterte boldly suggested stabbing the crook instead.

“Huwag mo barilin kasi maingay, madali mahuli. Sasakin na lang ninyo. Ito yung mga parasites, mga linta and they thrive on the gullible pati yung naive na lolokohin kapwa tao (Do not shoot them because it's noisy, you'll be easily caught. Better stab them. These are the parasites, leeches they thrive on the gullible and naive and dupe fellowmen)," he said.

“Walang manloloko kung walang nagpapaloko (There will be no deception if there are not fools)," he said.

The former Davao City mayor said politicians usually agree to take photos with people, especially during campaign but some snapshots are unfortunately used in name-dropping schemes.

“Itong lokohan na pakita nila katabi ko sila o sa kasal na magkakumare, kumpare kami, tapos may nilalakad, tapos sabihin na lalakarin namin ‘yang papel mo, bigyan mo kami ng down payment. Mga kababayan ko, mahirap lang kami pero hindi – I’m sure kaming lahat hindi namin daanin sa may utusan kami (Under this deception, they show people these pictures to show we are supposedly friends and then promise to work on their papers in government if given a downpayment. My countrymen, we are poor but we don't resort to such scheme),” he said.

“Kapag binanggit 'yung pangalan ni Secretary (Delfin) Lorenzana, Secretary (Carlito) Galvez, Secretary (Francisco) Duque, pag ginamit ang mga pangalan sa contracts. the mere fact na ginamit ang pangalan, wala 'yan. Walang pumapatol dito sa amin ng ganun 'yang lakarin (If the names of Secretary Lorenzana, Secretary Galvez, Secretary Duque are dropped in securing contracts, the mere fact that the names were used, that's nothing. We don't tolerate that)," he said.
