Laguna scores third straight win in PCAP


The Laguna Heroes routed the Olongapo Rainbow Team 7, 18-3, for their third victory in the All Filipino Conference Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online tournament over the weekend.

United States-based Grandmaster Banjo Barcenilla celebrated his 49th birthday with a triumph over Joshua Bautista in both blitz and rapid events to steer the Laguna Heroes to a 3-2 win-loss record.

FIDE Master Austin Jacob Literatus also secured wins in the upper boards over National Master Gefer Inbuido for the Laguna Heroes.

Also providing victories were Woman National Master Jean Karen Enriquez against Judith Pineda on board three, National Master Efren Bagamasbad over Edimar Eje on board four, Grandmaster John Paul Gomez against Conrad Corre on board five, and Kimuel Aaron Lorenzo over Lou Anton Rivera on board seven.

Earlier, the Laguna Heroes trounced the Cavite Spartans, 14-7. They opened their title bid last week with a victory over the Rizal Batch Towers, 17.5-3.5.

They suffered back-to-back defeats on Wednesday at the hands of the San Juan Predators, 12-9, and Caloocan, 11-10.
