For many K-pop fans, Korean choreographer Bae Yoon-jung is a familiar face for being a dance mentor on the survival audition TV shows “Produce 101” Season 1, “Produce 48” and “Produce X 101.”
She has choreographed many of the dances of K-pop idols including EXID’s “Up & Down,” KARA’s “Mister” and “Lupin,” T-ara’s "Bo Peep Bo Peep" and Brown Eyed Girls’ “Abracadabra,” and “Pick Me” in “Produce 101.”
Bae Yoon-jung became a guest on the KBS TV show “Problem Child in House,” which has Super Junior’s Heechul as one of the hosts.
She was asked by host Song Eun-i, “Who do you think is the best K-pop dancer?”
“Actually, I get so many questions like that. They are all good. No one is bad,” Bae Yoon-jung replied.
When prodded to name the best dancers among the current crop of K-pop stars, Bae Yoon-jung picked four.
“I think IZ*ONE’s Chaeyeon, Chungha, BLACKPINK’s Lisa and Seulgi (of Red Velvet),” the choreographer said.
But she explained that “there are so many. It’s hard to find anyone who is bad at dancing.”
Heechul asked her, “Are there dancers who are not the best dancers but who you think are cool?” and she named Lee Hyori, who rose to fame through the girl group Fin.K.L.
Bae Yoon-jung replied, “When I was young, I was a dancer for Lee Hyori. And I thought, ‘She’s the one who should be an entertainer.’ She’s not a good dancer. However, when she is on the stage, she can change according to the song she sings. She can be cute, sexy. She can express everything.”
