Baguio City, 3 provinces post 243 new COVID-19 cases


BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) - Cordillera continued to post considerable number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections in this city, and in the provinces of Kalinga, Mountain Province and Ifugao, with a total of 243 fresh cases on Monday, January 18.

The City Health Service Office (CHSO) here logged 56 new cases, with one fatality, and 26 recoveries.

The city now has 506 active cases, 3,942 recoveries and 85 deaths out of the total of 4,533 confirmed cases as of January 18.

Kalinga had the most number of new cases on Monday with 108, 53 of which came from the capital city of Tabuk, 20 from Balbalan, eight each from Rizal, Tanudan and Pasil; five in Libuagan, four in Tinglayan, and two in Pinukpuk.

And because of the surge in the incidence of COVID-19 in Tabuk, the Kalinga Provincial COVID-19 Task Force placed under temporary lockdown Barangays Bulanao Norte,Bulanao Centro, Agbannawag, and Bado Dangwa from January 18 to 22.

The celebration of the Fifth Bodong Festival was also ordered suspended y the Provincial Management Committee.

The observance and commemoration of the province's 26th Founding Anniversary will be through a simple thanksgiving mass, where all minimum health and safety protocols would be followed, on February 14.

The Mountain Province Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported 47 new cases and eight recoveries on Monday, bringing the a total of confirmed cases to 418 (256 active cases, 161 recoveries and one death).

Of the new cases, 27 came from capital town of Bontoc, 12 in Sabangan, 2 each from Bauko,Sadanga,Sagada and Paracelis. 

In Ifugao, 32 new cases were reported.

Meanwhile, data from DOH-Cordillera showed that there were 329 new cases in the region, with 86 still being verified to be coming from the provinces of Benguet, Apayao, and Abra.
