Jail officer gunned down in Danao City

CEBU CITY--A jail officer was gunned down while outside his office in Barangay Dunggoan, Danao City, northern Cebu.

Police said Jail Officer 2 Reymond Roble Vasquez, 34, was on duty at the time he was killed around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police said the victim was in his multicab when four motorcycles, each boarded by two men, arrived.

Without saying a word, the bonnet-wearing men on motorcycles riddled the jail officer with gun fire before speeding off.

The victim, who suffered gunshot wounds in the head and body, was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

"We are coordinating with the Bureau of Jail and Management to check the victim's background. We will check if he had enemies because it appears the assailants there were extreme anger that way he was killed," said Police Lt. Col. Maria Therese Macatangay, chief of Danao City Police Station.

Macatangay said investigators will also review the footage captured by a security camera in the premises where the attack happened.
