BARMM to celebrate foundation day on Jan. 21

DAVAO CITY - The Bangsamoro Automous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will observe Bangsamoro Foundation Day on January 21.

According to a Memorandum Circular signed by Executive Secretary-Designate, Abdulraof Macacua, Chapter 1, Sec. 10 of the Bangsamoro Administrative Code (BAC) declared the 21st of January as the "Bangsamoro Foundation Day", a non-working holiday in celebration of the establishment of the BARMM.

The days "shall be celebrated in recognition of the dreams and aspiration of the people to chart their social, political, and economic destiny in exercise of their right to self-determination."

On January 21, 2019, the first of the two-part plebiscite for the ratification of Republic Act No. 11054 or the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) was held. The second plebiscite was held on February 6, 2019.

On October 28, 2020, the BAC was approved. Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim said previously that one of its basic principles and policies provides that BARMM "shall maintain honesty, integrity, transparency, and accountability in governance and take positive and effective measures against graft and corruption.”

The memorandum released by the Office of the Chief Minister directed all ministries, offices, agencies, and constituent local government units to participate in the activities and to conduct their own activities "befitting the occasion."

The week-long celebration will start on January 18 "when a simultaneous flag raising and singing of the Bangsamoro Hymn"  will be conducted in government offices, including schools, in the BARMM
