As of noon Thursday, the department’s Bureau of Maintenance reported a total of eight national road closures in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao due to heavy rains from the northeast monsoon and easterlies.

Affected road sections in the Cordillera Administrative Region were the section of the Junction Talubin-Barlig-Natonin-Paracelis-Calaccad Road in Sta. Isabel, Natonin, Mountain Province due to landslides and a section of the Tabuk-Banawe via Tanudan-Barlig Road in Lubo, Tanudan, Kalinga which was closed since the onslaught of tropical depression “Vicky” due to landslide.

Heavy rains also rendered four road sections impassable in Bicol region – Daang Maharlika in Barangay Tigbinan, Labo, Camarines Norte due to damaged bailey bridge; Junction Panganiban‐Sabloyon Road in Barangay San Miguel, Panganiban, Catanduanes due to road slip; Junction Baras‐Gigmoto‐Viga Road in Barangay Sioron, Gigmoto, Catanduanes due to landslide; and Junction Sorsogon-Bacon-Manito in Sorsogon due to landslides.

In Eastern Visayas, affected roads were Panalian Bridge along Boundary Silago-Abuyog Road in Southern Leyte due to washed-out detour; and the Wright-Taft-Borongan Road sections in Camp 5 Boundary-Junction Taft in Barangay San Rafael, Taft, Eastern Samar and Barangay Binaloan, Taft, Eastern Samar due to rockfall and landslide.

The Layog Bridge on Daang Maharlika in Barangay Polahongan, Mahaplag, Leyte has  been closed since Dec. 15 due to bridge failure.

In Mindanao, a section of the Dinagat-Loreto Road in Villa Ecleo, Basilis, Dinagat Islands is closed due to soil erosion. Other road sections are already one-lane passable, the department said.
