Flooding inundates parts of E. Visayas; bridge, roads rendered impassable


TACLOBAN CITY - Parts of Eastern Visayas continue to experience stormy weather due to the Tail-end of the Frontal System (Shear line) affecting the eastern section of Visayas on Monday inundating areas in floodwater and rendering a bridge and several roads impassable.

The Panalian Bridge detour in Silago, Southern Leyte was washed out due to continuous heavy downpour rendering the Abuyog-Silago Road impassable to all types of vehicles.

Motorists are advised to take the Tacloban - Palo – Carigara – Baybay - Bato- Bontoc – Sogod – Daang Maharlika - Liloan - San Ricardo road route from Tacloban City going to Panaon area, including Liloan and Benit Port in San Ricardo.

For light vehicles, they may take the Tacloban – Mahaplag – Baybay – Maasin – Sogod – Daang Maharlika - Liloan - San Ricardo road route or Tacloban - Mahaplag – Baybay – Bato – Bontoc – Sogod – Daang Maharlika – Liloan – San Ricardo road route.

Office of the Civil Defense 8 Regional Director Lord Byron Torrecarion said a landslide also occurred in Brgy. Kahupian, Sogod, Southern Leyte blocking the Maharlika Highway due to mud debris. The road is now passable after being cleared at around 9 a.m.

Heavy flooding of up to two meters deep was reported in Catarman, Catubig, Allen, and Capul, Northern Samar.

A total of 627 individuals or 129 families in Catubig and Catarman town are affected.

At least 883 passengers and 390 rolling cargoes have been stranded in Allen ports.

Eastern Samar has also experienced up to three meters deep floodwater in the municipalities of Dolores, Sulat, Arteche, Maslog, Jipapad, Oras, Can-avid, and San Julian.

In Samar province, landslides were reported in Gandara, Jiabong, and Paranas.

Caibiran, Biliran Mayor Rhodessa Delante-Revita has suspended work in all government offices due to heavy rains.
