Baguio City posts 2 more COVID-19 deaths

BAGUIO CITY – The city posted two more deaths related to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Saturday, January 9, that brought the number of fatalities to 11 just in the first nine days of the month.

The City Health Service Office (CHSO) said a 55-year-old male, who had chronic kidney disease, and a 94-year-old female succumbed to the dreaded disease on Saturday.

It also reported 22 new cases, including six minors, and four senior citizens.

The city now has a total of 343 active cases, 3,707 recoveries, and 76 deaths.

City Health Officer Dr. Rowena Galpo urged individuals experiencing early symptoms to seek immediate medical consultation from the nearest health facility to ensure they are properly diagnosed, and avoid complications.

Galpo said people should not fear seeking early medical consultation from health authorities to avoid health complications that might cause their untimely demise.

She disclosed that individuals experiencing early signs of the virus, especially the elderly, have been hesitant in seeking medical attention because they do not want to be immediately confined and isolated in the health facilities, and this might contribute in the worsening of their health condition.

Galpo explained that most of the reported deaths in the city belonged to the elderly age bracket, and many of them were declared dead on-arrival or have been brought to the hospitals when their situation was already complicated.

She added that the most common co-morbidities of the elderly who recently died after having contracted the virus were hypertension and diabetes.
