Korean star Sandara Park, or Dara, donated one ton of pet food for rescued animals under the care of the Korean Animal Welfare Association, the largest non-profit organization for animals in South Korea.
“I went to the Korean Animal Welfare Association in Namyangju with Dr. Dog. I donated feed and met dogs and cats which were rescued from difficult situations and are growing well and healthy,” Dara, former member of K-pop group 2NE1, posted on Twitter along with photos of her visit.
Dara, together with people from Dr. Dog, a Korean pet food company, went on Jan. 6 to the association’s Companion Animal Welfare Center located in Namyangju, Gyeonggi province in South Korea.
According to the company, Dara became Dr. Dog’s 25th “donation of 1 ton of feed” angel under its Give & Love Project. Dr. Dog thanked Dara for participating in the project.
The animal welfare center is home to rescued animals with the aim of protecting “animals that have been abused and injured, providing expert care for the animals in this modern shelter facility. All the expenses for the shelter are covered by public fund-raising,” according to the association’s website.
The Korean Animal Welfare Association advocates for animal welfare with the slogan “all creatures in pain and suffering have the rights to relief and to be free from it.”
“We work to reduce the use of animals and to restrict the kinds of animals used by human beings. We advocate the renovation of animal protection laws, encourage the rescue and adoption of abused animals, and conduct research and investigation of animal welfare,” according to the association’s website.
It also encourages people to adopt animals. “We develop animal adoption culture that views the animal as a family member, not a product so that we can reduce the number of abandoned animals and the systematic use of euthanasia,” according to the association.
