Bidangil Pictures, in collaboration with Netflix Korea, will be producing an exclusive sci-fi thriller film Space Sweepers (Korean title: 승리호), which will be starring Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae-Ri.
This was initially announced last year, but a final premiere date has been confirmed by Netflix recently through a newly posted YouTube teaser.
Space Sweepers is about a cosmic waste management spacecraft who discovers a humanlike robot named Dorothy.
Netflix announced that the story is set in the year 2092, where planet earth is nowhere near being inhabitable. Song Joong Ki plays Tae-ho, a pilot who undertakes any profitable venture. Kim Tae-ri plays the role of Captain Jang, while Jin Sun-Kyu and Yoo Hai-jin play Tiger Park and Bubs, respectively.
Ex-space pirate Captain Jang, ex-con spaceship engineer Tiger Park, military robot Bubs, and genius space pilot Tae-ho embark on a journey on board Spaceship Victory living off salvaging space debris. After successfully snatching a crashed space shuttle in their latest chase, the crew bump into a 7-year-old human-like girl robot inside. They find out that she is wanted by the UTS Space Guards and decide to demand ransom in exchange.
This sci-fi thriller starring Filipino-favorite Song Joong Ki will surely be action packed and news of this Netflix exclusive content has been buzzing in and out of South Korea.
Would the story be a Korean version of Guardians of the Galaxy? Will this be one of the best films of the year? We’ll only find out soon, as it is set to premiere this Feb. 5 only on Netflix!
