ICYMI: Keanu Reeves comic book to come out this year

BRZRKR something to look forward to in October

Apart from his action-packed films to his acting chops, here's another reason to stan Keanu Reeves. The Hollywood actor’s relationship with comic books now goes beyond his portrayal of John Constantine with the release of his first ever graphic novel, BRZRKR.

In collaboration with graphic novelist Matt Kindt, artist Ron Garney, colorist Bill Crabtree, and letterer Clem Robins, BRZRKR will be a 12-series comic book published by Boom! Studios. It follows the story of an immortal warrior known as Berzerker, half-mortal and half-god, and his centuries-long journey in blood-soaked violence and battles. The character is now working for the US government in exchange for truth behind his existence.

According to a report by the USA Today, the story was first pitched by the movie star with Boom! as a material for a live-action project.

“This character who was born 80,000 years ago, half man, his father’s a war god. It's a little fantasy in reality,” Reeves said. “I had this image in my head of a guy fighting through the ages because of his father’s compulsion to violence.”

Upon checking its initial artwork, the resemblance between Reeves and Berzerker is quite uncanny. The 55-year-old actor even hinted that he would “love to play Berzerker” for a live-action feature. But that's another story to be tackled in the future.

“Spend five minutes with Keanu and it becomes clear very quickly why he’s earned all the success he has,” said Matt Gagnon, editor-in-chief of Boom. “Exceptional creative instincts, deep reservoirs of wisdom on story, the ability to consistently tap into the raw emotion of a moment, relentless commitment to quality and the task at hand–it’s all this and much more that make Keanu an inspiring force.”

BRZRKR will be offered in complete graphic novel set through Kickstarter and will begin shipping in September this year according to Boom! Studios.
