Ex-US Navy shoots girlfriend who just gave birth

MANGALDAN, Pangasinan -- A retired US Navy man was arrested by the police after shooting to death his girlfriend who just gave birth to their baby in Brgy Macayug, Mangaldan, Pangasinan.

Arrested by the Mangaldan police was Rommer Gonzales, 40, a retired US Navy, at his compound in Brgy Embarcadero, Mangaldan, Pangasinan at around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Gonzales was positively identified by three witnesses as the one who shot Maria Theresa Ambas, 39. .

Investigators said a love triangle and custody of the newborn baby boy could be the motive for the killing. Prior to the shooting, Gonzales and Ambas were reportedly arguing on social media.

Scene of the Crime Office (SOCO) operatives recovered five fired cartridge cases from an unknown caliber.

Gonzales is now under the custody of the Mangaldan Police and will be facing murder charges according to the local police.
