6 senior citizens die of COVID-19 on single day in Pangasinan


PANGASINAN – Six senior citizens died of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Tuesday, January 5, and together with a 35-year-old patient, comprised the highest number of reported fatalities on a single day in the province, according to the Pangasinan Provincial Health Office (PPHO).

The fatalities reported on Wednesday were three men aged 65, 70 and 87; and an 81-year-old female from Mangaldan; a 70-year-old male from Dagupan City; and a 73-year-old male from Calasiao.

The other patient who died was a 35-year-old man from Infanta.

The PPHO also reported that, as of 6 p.m. on January 5, Pangasinan already has 2,925 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 2,449 recoveries, 450 active cases, and 126 fatalities.

And on Wednesday alone, there were at least 40 new COVID-19 cases coming from Alaminos City ,Asingan, Binmaley, Calasiao,Dagupan City, Laoac,Mangaldan, San Carlos City, Sta Barbara, Lingayen, and San Nicolas.

Meanwhile in San Nicolas town, Villa Verde Road in Barangay Sta. Maria East and Barangay Malico was temporarily closed.

According to San Nicolas Mayor Alicia L. Primicias–Enriquez, the lockdown was part of the preventive measures of the local government to combat the spread of COVID-19.
