Alex Eala, 15, targets to join more women's tournaments this year as part of her long-term career goal.

Philippines’ top junior tennis player Alex Eala returns to Spain on Tuesday to resume her training at the Rafa Nadal Academy.

Eala, 15, spent the holidays with family but still continued with her training regimen upon the online guidance of her coaches in Spain to keep her in top shape for the season.

In an earlier interview, Eala said she has been spending five hours a day training based from the modules that her coaches from the academy are sending.

Ranked No. 3 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) juniors, Eala targets to join two to three $15,000 women’s tournaments starting Jan. 18 to beef up her goal of eclipsing her most successful season so far last 2020.

Last year, Eala opened her campaign by winning the Australian Open Junior Girls doubles title with Indonesian partner Priska Nugroho while also barging into the French Open Junior Girls singles semifinal.

She also achieved a career-high ranking of No. 2 in the ITF last October.

But her focus now is improving her performances in the women’s tourneys after joining only five events last year where she made it past the second round on three of those events.
