Flood destroys 75 houses, damages 379 others in Negros Occidental


BACOLOD CITY – More houses were washed out and damaged by massive flooding that have hit three cities in northern part of Negros Occidental since January 1.

Based on the data from the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD), 75 houses were destroyed, while 379 others were damaged, in the cities of Talisay, Silay, and Victorias, as of January 3.

Of the total number of destroyed houses, 19 were washed out in Talisay City, 19 in Silay City, and 37 in Victorias City.

The data also showed 59 damaged houses in Talisay, 193 in Silay, and 127 in Victorias.

The riprap in Barangay Zone 3 collapsed and the Bangga 12 riprap bridge in Barangay 16 was also damaged in the flood in Talisay.

The flood also damaged agricultural crops and livestock in Silay.

The incidents of flooding were caused by heavy rains that started to hit the province late December 31, affecting more than 15,000 families.
