Man in trouble for lying to Dagupan police

DAGUPAN CITY – A 39-year-old man here could be facing more hurt than just the bullet wound he sustained in his left leg during the New Year’s Eve revelry.

Raymundo Dalioan, a resident of Lucao District here, has found himself in hot water after he admitted lying to the police when he claimed that he was a victim of a stray bullet on December 31.

Instead, Dalioan said he had accidentally shot himself while inspecting a .38-caliber revolver he had found on December 30.

He was taken by his live-in partner to the Region 1 Medical Center here where he told doctors that he was a victim of a stray bullet.

Dagupan City Police Chief Lt. Col. Luis Ventura had earlier ordered an investigation into the Dalioan’s earlier claim that he was hit by a stray bullet inside their home on New Year’s eve.

Bu Ventura’s suspicion was piqued by the pieces of photo evidence that investigators presented to him.

“Sa bubong ang tama ng bala at saka tumama sa legs nya, parang malabo dahil wala namang bahay na mas mataas sa bahay nya para panggalingan ng bala (The bullet was supposed to come through the roof before it hit his leg. It was not plausible because there was no house nearby that stood taller than their home where the bullet could have come from),” Ventura told The Manila Bulletin.

As such, Ventura had Dalioan summoned to the police station where the shooting victim confessed to the true circumstances that led to his leg injury.

Appropriate case is being prepared against the suspect who will be placed under hospital confinement.
