Baguio City, Benguet province report 4 COVID-19 deaths on New Year’s eve


BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Health (DOH)-Cordillera reported four new deaths related to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases posts here and the nearby province of Benguet on Thursday, December 31.

DOH-Cordillera said that two men, aged 79 and 69 years old, died on December 31 at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) on December 31.

From December 1 to 31, the city has recorded a total of 851 COVID-19 cases with 747 recoveries and 22 deaths.

The City Health Service Office recorded 33 new cases on December 31, bringing the city’s total number of active cases to 277, recoveries at 3,524, and fatalities at 635 out of the total of 3,866 confirmed cases.

The Benguet Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported 18 new cases, bringing the provincial tally to 360 active cases, 2,816 recoveries, and, with an additional two deaths on Thursday, a total of 37 fatalities.

Benguet PHO said the fatalities were 66-year-old male from La Trinidad, and a 43-year-old male from Buguias.

As the end of the year, the capital town of La Trinidad still had the highest number of COVID-19 active cases at 149, followed by Itogon-147; Mankayan-32; Kapangan-20; Tuba-16; Buguias-15; Sablan-6; Kabayan-5;Tublay-4;Atok-2;Kibungan-2;Bakun-1 and Bokod-1.
