Monkayo residents told to avoid eating pork until Jan. 6

DAVAO CITY - The municipal government of Monkayo in Davao de Oro has ordered the closure of the meat sections of public markets and a slaughterhouse from January 1 to 6 after a confirmed case of African Swine Flu (ASF) was reported on New Year's Eve.

In a statement on Thursday, December 31, the Monkayo Local ASF Task Force said the test results of a hog came back positive for the ASF virus. The result was released on Thursday, December 31.

Last week, the ASF task force received reports of the suspected ASF case after the hog, that was supposed to be slaughtered at the MAGRO Complex, showed symptoms of the virus.

Municipal Mayor Ramil Lao Gentugaya promptly ordered the closure of the meat sections in public markets in the town, and a halt in the operation of the slaughterhouse from January 1 until January 6, 2021.

"Kini aron mahatagan ug panahon ang Disinfection Activities aron malikayan ang dugang kaso o pagkalat niini sa atong lungsod (This is to give way for disinfection activities to contain the spread of the ASF in our town)," it said.

It said Gentugaya also ordered residents to avoid cooking, selling, and consuming pork meat until January 6.

"Gi-hangyo ang mga nanag-iya ug mga baboy ug namaligya ug karne nga makig-alayon sa atong MAGRO ug Economic Enterprise Management Office kung adunay nabantayan nga mga sintomas ug i-report ang kasamtangang sitwasyon sa ilang mga baboy (We are requesting hog raisers and traders of pork meat to coordinate with the Municipal Agriculture Office and the Economic Enterprise Management Office if they see symptoms of ASF in their hogs)," it said.
