NPA leader, two members surrender to EV cops


PALO, Leyte – A leader of the New People's Army (NPA), together with his two members, surrendered to police authorities, a report from Police Regional Office 8 (PRO 8) based in Camp Ruperto Kangleon, barangay Campetic, this town said here Tuesday.

PRO 8 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Ronaldo F. De Jesus, told the Manila Bulletin that the three alleged members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) and Militia ng Bayan who surrendered to elements of First Leyte Provincial Mobile Force Company led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Frederick G Senal, Force Commander, under the direct supervision of Col. Rodelio Samson, Provincial Director, Leyte PPO, were formally presented to his office during the CPP-NPA anniversary on December 26, 2020.

De Jesus identified the NPA leader as 'Ka Joseph' of 'Pokot Paniniktik' -North Eastern Samar 2nd District of Jorge Bolito Command. He also served as a Squad and Platoon Leader of Hamomong Pltn (FGU), and Finance Officer and Medic of Banog Pltn (FGU). The two other NPA members were not identified.

The surrenderers also turned over one shotgun with two ammunition; three revolvers with ten cal. 38 ammunition; one cal. 45 with one magazine and ammunition; one KG9 with one magazine and 11 9mm ammunition; and three rifle grenades.

"The yielding of the NPA leader and its other members, on the group's significant day, is a welcome development. I still call upon all those who remain under the nonsensical influence of this communist group to finally abandon the armed struggle. The government forces are more than willing to accommodate your decision towards peace and progress," De Jesus said.
