14 bar-goers, 5 of them foreigners, nabbed for violating curfew in Makati City

Fourteen bar-goers, five of them are foreigners, were apprehended by policemen for violating curfew in Makati City, Wednesday dawn, Makati City Assistant Chief of Police for Operations Major Tyrone Valenzona said.

Policemen said the apprehended individuals are aged 20 to 48 years old.

Based on a police report, around 2 a.m., patrolling policemen noticed that Howzat bar, located on Kalayaan Avenue in Barangay Poblacion, Makati, was still operating even though it was already curfew hours.

Cops then swooped in and apprehended the bar-goers who were having a drinking spree.

Valenzona said that the bar-goers were also given two citation tickets by personnel of the Makati Public Safety Department (PSD).

“Those we apprehended were given P1, 000 ticket for curfew violation, and another P1, 000 ticket for not practicing social distancing,” he said.

“They were not also observing social distancing.”

The bar-goers were released after the citation tickets were issued by the PSD.

Makati Police said the citation tickets must be settled at the Makati City Hall.

Valenzona reminded the public that there is still a threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), saying they should take extra precautions and not to put their guard down even during the holiday season.

"To our bar owners, please follow the city's curfew ordinance. This is for the safety of the public. COVID-19 is still here," he said.

Under Makati City’s Executive Ordinance (EO) No. 25, curfew time from the period of Dec. 16 to 24 is 12 a.m. to 3 a.m.
