Globe myBusiness stages Paskong Pasasalamat online thanksgiving concert to recognize the resilience of Filipino MSMEs amid pandemic
Without a doubt, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought many businesses in the Philippines to their knees, especially those that belong to the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) segment.
The International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations (UN), bared that 68% of Filipino businesses were strongly affected by the pandemic.
This figure came based on a report titled “Promoting SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) competitiveness in the Philippines: Compete, connect and change to build resilience to crises." The report involved a survey conducted in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry - Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development.
In a separate study, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) shared that 70.6% of MSMEs were forced to temporarily close due to the pandemic as 58.8% of them reported zero income.
While many businesses in the MSME sector have managed to stay afloat amid the health crisis, more than 20% of these entities reported a revenue drop of more than 30 percent, with 66.2% were forced to reduce their workforce.
Despite the national government's decision to reopen the economy in recent months as the holiday season approaches, it will take time for many of these businesses to catch up and recover the momentum that they had before the pandemic came.
Paskong Pasasalamat by Globe myBusiness
Speaking of the holiday season, an informal survey conducted by Globe myBusiness revealed that 52% of its existing customers it surveyed (381) said that they won't be celebrating a Christmas party due to budget constraints, logistical and safety concerns, and temporary closure.
The same survey, however, also revealed that 83.2% of the respondents still want to celebrate Christmas by participating in an online live stream event or a concert together with their employees.
Globe myBusiness, as a leading solutions provider for MSMEs in the Philippines, listened to its customers and organized a Christmas concert that aims to delight, help them save money, and reward their employees during the holidays.
This pandemic year, Globe myBusiness staged the Paskong Pasasalamat, a one-of-a-kind interactive thanksgiving party that honors the resilience of MSMEs during this extraordinary time.
Exclusive for Globe myBusiness customers and their employees, the online event happened on December 12 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Globe myBusiness Facebook page.
Paskong Pasasalamat was graced by the virtual presence and performances of Gloc-9, Glaiza de Castro, Rocksteddy, and BINI. Globe myBusiness added excitement to the event by conducting games, including a Christmas Dance-off Challenge with P80,000 GCash credits at stake for winning participants, and giving away raffle prizes worth P136,000.
On top of these, Globe myBusiness honored its customers and their employees with recognition videos featuring their Malasakit Stories, narrating how Filipinos MSMEs remain generous amid tough times.
